On September 4th, at Logan Botanic Garden - the winner of this year's Young Horticulturist of the Year was announced.
Congratulations to Tim Stafford (a third-year student on the Kew Diploma in Horticulture course) for winning the Grand Final and becoming this year’s Young Horticulturist of the Year. Well done to runner-up David Pearce and third placed Cal Stewart.
The annual competition is organised by the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH) and the 1st Place prize provided by the Shropshire Horticultural Society & the Percy Thrower Trust; a travel bursary of £2,500 - to fund horticultural related travel anywhere in the world.
The Second Place winner went home with £950, Third Place with £550 and the rest of the runners up all received £200, all to be used in any way they wish.
Each of the finalists is also awarded membership to the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and PlantNetwork.
According to the CIH website, previous winners have visited 'Borneo, China, New Zealand, South Africa, the Himalayas, and the Galapagos Islands.'
