The Future Gardeners project has been one of the most successful Gardeners Company initiatives. Starting as an idea formed by Paul Rochford and Mike Fitt, the programme works with delivery partners up and down the country to support educational options that make horticulture a ‘no-barrier-to-entry’ career choice.
Future Gardeners-supported courses help students to acquire horticultural skills through a variety of training schemes, demonstrations, garden visits and talks given by experts in the field, many within our own networks. Programmes can also feature interview-technique coaching and CV writing as well as work experience with an impressive range of horticultural professionals including some of our wonderful partners. Most graduates receive a qualification in horticulture such as a City and Guilds certificate.
Over 80% of the people who have completed our supported courses go on to apprenticeships, further training or employment in the horticultural sector.
The Future Gardeners programme has been going since 2015 and was incorporated as registered charity number 1191623 in 2020. Today, we are focusing on the expansion of the programme beyond London. An active fundraising outreach will help us to ensure that the initiative continues to grow and blossom.
