The Lord Mayor's Show dates back to the early 13th Century, when King John granted that the City of London could appoint its own Mayor.
The next (and 695th) Lord Mayor of London, will be Alderman Michael Mainelli, who will take office in the Silent Ceremony the day before the Show. Then, the Show will take the new Lord Mayor to Westminster – to swear loyalty to the crown.
This November, an estimated 250,000 people will line the City's streets to witness some 7,000 people, 200 horses, and 50 decorated floats taking part in the Show.
