The Old Laboratory was the home of RHS Science for over a century and was fundamental in Wisley's mission to conduct practical scientific research into ornamental horticulture, and provide training for student gardeners.
The Old Lab was in use until 2021, when the RHS Science and Advisory teams (and Herbarium) moved into the new purpose-built gardening science facility – RHS Hilltop.
So, from the 20th March, 2023 for the very first time, visitors will be able to explore the Old Lab with interactive exhibits and the Wisley Gallery for them to 'dig deeper into the past'.
The extensive refurbishments of the Grade II listed building, both outside and in were supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Highlights of the Old Laboratory include;
- Townsend Lecture Theatre
- Advisory Office
- Wolfson Laboratory
- Wisley Gallery – which will be exhibiting 'Royal Roots' until 26th May, 2023.
The RHS is asking all visitors to book a time slot online to visit the Old Laboratory.
Entry to the Old Laboratory is included with normal garden admission. Free to RHS members.
