Branch Out – Archive Open Day at The Garden Museum

April 20th 2023

The Garden Museum is running an Archive Open Day, which is part of its 'Branch Out' programme – a series of free events exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science etc.

Attendees to the Archive Open Day will get the chance to:

  • Explore hidden stories from the Archive of Garden Design,
  • Ask the archivists team questions,
  • Read 'not-seen-before' materials such as; the garden plans of Russell Page, Beth Chatto’s travel diaries, designs from Elphick’s Seed Archive, and other treasures from the collection.

Attendees are invited to bring an item or a small selection of their own materials such as a floral postcard, garden photos, an old seed packet, or other garden ephemera.

Using the above, the Garden Museum archivists will introduce attendees to simple preservation materials and cataloguing systems, allowing them to conserve and take away their own piece of history.
